Easily Turn Your Trash to Treasures

by

Don’t throw away that cracked mirror, tea cup with a broken handle or that video baby monitor so quick. Turn your trash into treasures with these easy fix ups.

For a cracked mirror turn it into a chalk board or a magnetic board.

Fill in the crack with a bit of glue then paint it with chalkboard paint your can find at your local hardware store. You could use it for a doodle board, message board or simply cover with a favorite with a favorite picture and frame. Love magnets? Make your mirror magnetic with a primer that is infused with magnetic particles, then paint with your favorite color.

Turn that beautiful tea cup now with a broken handle into a mini garden or candle holder.

A tea cup or even a coffee mug is just the right size to add water and a couple of pretty flowers to set out on a breakfast table or add decor to your desk.  If you love fresh herbs, fill it half way with potting soil, seeds from Parsley, Basil, Oregano or any herb you like, cover with more soil and set in your kitchen window.

Since a coffee or tea cup are made to with hold heat, make your pretty cup into a candle holder.  Fill the cup 1/2 way up with melted wax, a cotton wick for a candle. Once melted down, refill again with any scent or color wax you like.

Speaking of Wax it can be recycled too..

Don’t throw away those little bits, or knobs of candles left over. These are great for sticky drawers, glass door runners, sticky doors. Just rub the knob of candle wax on the moving parts of the drawer, the hinges of a door and along the runners of your glass door to help them slide more easily.

Video Baby Monitors are wonderful, keep yours around for another purpose once baby is grown.

Want to know who is at the front door with out going to find out? Stick your baby video monitor in a window pointing to your front door, when someone comes up you can check the monitor before opening the door.  You also can use the monitor for keeping an eye on kids who may not be feeling well, pets or seniors who may need your assistance.

Tips – How To Get More Out Of Your Gas Tank

by

For the past few years gas prices have gone way up and down a bit. Wish the price would go down further but there are some things you can do to save yourself money on that tank of gas and get more millage.

Smooth Driving
With the GPS system and places online like Google Maps and Map Quest you can pretty much pick a route of where you are going and better yet, it will show you where the traffic is heavy or if there is any traffic at all. Planning to go across town or further, check out your GPS or maps online with the address your going to from the place your at and see if the traffic is heavy. This will help you pick out a detour that may be shorter or even if its a bit longer you can still save money on the road. Better to be along your way then sitting in traffic using up fuel.

What lane do you drive in?
If your on a road with say three lanes, then you know that probably the right lane will be a stop and go for people turning off to the right, the braking and acceleration of slow down and go uses up more fuel. Passing someone even uses up more fuel. Try the middle lane and cruise until you have to be either the left or right lane.

No Phone Calls Please
Anything distracting you while driving is not good. Cell phones are just that a distraction whether you have a head set or speaker phone. Many states ban cell phones and texting while driving and with good reason to safety. While they are a safely issue, the distraction while on the phone can also cause you to make a wrong turn, brake suddenly for not noticing traffic or the person in front of you stopping, driving faster then you should. This all adds up to more fuel being used.

Turn of The Air Conditioner
Air Conditioners eat up your fuel try not to use the air conditioner if you don’t have to. If you are starting out in the morning and the heat is not up to par yet, ride with the windows down.
When you reach your destination try to park in a place that provides shade so you can keep your car reasonably cool and your air conditioner wont have to cool off your hot car.
Once your car is cool, turn the AC down a notch or two.

Gas Prices more on the Weekends
Check gas prices on the news, online and especially during a holiday weekend coming up. Usually during a holiday weekend like Memorial Day gas prices can go up. Try to fill your tank a few days before to get the cheapest price. Your local news should give you updates on gas prices during the week for what is to come for the weekend.

Carpooling
If you know of a neighbor or co worker nearby you, offer to carpool. Going to the store, gym or to work, this has always and can help you save on gas.

Money Savers – Sneaky Return Policys You Should Know Now

by

I love to shop and do my homework when I am making a large purchase more so then a small one. I have noticed that in some places you just don’t get what you pay for, and its more of a hassle to shop then in others.

With gas prices going up and grocery bills rising weekly we are all cutting corners and for many of us just to be able to drive to work everyday. When it comes to purchasing products we want what we pay for. If the product does not do as it supposed to it needs to be returned.

Many stores and online websites are great about this, but be sure to be informed about a return policy for the place you wish to make a purchase and always check out the fine print.

The Fine Print is the Real Deal
While they may have in big bold print “90 Day Return Policy” or 100% Guaranteed, what does the fine print say. Do they offer you cash or credit? Is there a list of exclusions that your item is on and deemed not returnable? Does the company your purchasing from charge a big restock charge? Do you pay the shipping if purchased online? Covering these questions can help you before you purchase a product and be informed in case you have to make a return.

Prove You Bought That
Most stores only require a receipt or a credit card used to purchase the item you are returning. With scammers trying to cash out on stolen merchandise, you may also be required to show your ID or drivers license. Always keep your receipts and take that with you when returning an item to start the process of the return.

Once Opened – No Return
Dvd, Cd’s, Software and Electronic Games are rarely returnable. Once opened these items can be duplicated, therefor not good business for the sellers. Not sure if you really want that software, cd, dvd or game? Go online and see if the item has any reviews, ratings or a sneak peek before purchasing.

Know Where You Stand
Some stores and online stores are simple to know their return policy. They state it out right with a sign or an image on their site – No Returns, so you know you are taking your changes with your purchase. While some are outright with this information, others may have this tucked away on another page or again the fine print. Know where you stand. If in doubt of the return policy’s ask before purchasing online with an email, or if in a store, they should give it to you in writing.

Refund Reviews Are Out There

Check out the BBB.org (Better Business Bureau) or online review sites like Epinions.com or Yelp.com and look for return review complaints and where the shoppers had problems.

Get out and Enjoy – Restaurants Are Offering Awesome Incentives

by

We all know times are tough, the economy, job loses and many living paycheck to paycheck. Business owner know this too and offer many incentives to get you out of the house, clicking deals on line to find ways of entertainment. With a little ingenuity you can get out and bring the family for a breakfast, lunch or dinner at your local restaurants.

My family and I headed out to the Outback Steak House a few weeks ago and they were packed. We had a 45 minute wait and decided to sit out on their veranda which was also packed. While we were waiting a waitress came by and asked if we wanted to order drinks and another server was handing out free samples of appetizers. Smart marketing on their part as we were sure to stay and wait for our table and their kindness was appreciated. We ordered a few drinks and when we paid for them, the waitress gave us a receipt with a short survey to take. Taking this survey meant we would get a free appetizer ( just love, the Bloom-in Onion) with our meal and yes we did that right there from a cell phone on line.

You can also go on line and become a member of your favorite restaurant if they offer membership and get coupons like buy one get one meals, appetizers, drinks and more sent to your email.

Get out and Enjoy :}

Coupons Too Good To Be True

by

I use coupons when I go to the grocery store. Yes, I clip, print and save these treasures in a coupon organizer. I plan my meals with the grocery store’s sale paper and match up my coupons. Some weeks are better then others, but all in all I save money with every trip.

One thing I do not want to experience is a fraudulent coupon once up a the register.
Here are some tips to help you spot what these counterfeit coupons may look like.

Look for a product size: Many of the counterfeit coupons will not have a specific size or no size at all.

Expiration date: Is the expiration date to good to be true? A whole year? A valid coupon will have a short range expiration date, after all the company providing the coupon wants you to purchase their product right away and this makes sense. By giving you a coupon they are not only offering you savings but also promoting what they want to sell with an incentive. Valid coupons usually run for a few weeks up to 3 months.

Check out the logo on the coupon. Have you ever seen a watch that is supposedly a Rolex and when you check out the name on the watch face it reads Rolax? Manufacturers of coupons are very careful how they layout the logo’s, words and so on and do everything they can to keep replication of the logo’s.

Freebies: Most manufacturers stopped making printable coupons for free products in 2002 to help prevent fraud.

Whether you get your coupons on line from the Sunday paper or in the mail, check them out before you go to the store.

I have found a place called TheGroceryGame.com where you can learn more about coupon savings, shopping lists and stores with the best savings in your area with the founder Teri Gault.

Take This Ticket Back

by

You’ve planned your trip, bought your airline ticket way in advance to save some money and got a bargain. Now the date is coming up and you have to cancel. Is there a chance you can get a full refund?

Most airlines used to let you reserve a seat 24 hours before you purchased a ticket and now you must purchase a ticket to be sure you have a seat. You could possibly get a full refund and no fees even if you cancel within 24 hours by going on line with your confirmation number or giving them a call.
